Specially selected customers and community groups have received treats and surprise gifts from us to mark National Customer Service week.

Chelmsford based Dance 21 is a dance group for children and young adults with Downs Syndrome and their siblings. Their ultimate dream would be to dance in Disneyland Paris. They were presented with a donation of £500 in one of the surprises we gave out as part of our ‘Make My Day’ campaign.

Claire Sharp, Essex & Suffolk Water’s Customer Service Director, said: “We are passionate about delivering excellent customer service and wanted to mark customer service week in a way that shows we care about our employees, customers and the local communities we serve.”

Mary Schultz founder of Dance 21 in Chelmsford said: "It has made my day! We'll use the donation to help pay for the hire of the two dance studios we use in Chelmsford - thank you it will make a real difference."

Mike Conyers, a customer from Brentwood, lost his sight when he was 12 years old following a cricket accident. Despite this, he’s an inspiration through his charity work. Mike loves the smell of fresh flowers. He was surprised with a large bouquet of flowers and we arranged a monthly delivery of flowers going forward.

Mike said: "I hadn't a clue anything was a-foot! Flowers and smells brighten up life and they're so important for me. Surprises make life interesting and surprising - thank you.”

Our Customer Manager, Leigh White, said: “Meeting Mike and his daughter was a privilege. It is fantastic that we have been able to give such a special surprise to him. He is a true inspiration.

‘’Providing great customer service is at the heart of all we do. Our activity across customer service week will touch more than 2,000 lives, including individuals, community groups and our own employees. As a company that cares about the local communities it serves, it feels really good to be able to give something back and make peoples’ day!’’

The Institute of Customer Service stages National Customer Service Week during October to highlight and raise awareness of customer service and the vital role it plays in successful business practice and the growth of the UK economy.
