Essex & Suffolk Water has been named as one of the UK’s Best Workplaces™ for Women, achieving a 19th place ranking on the list in the Super Large Category, published by Great Place to Work® UK today.

The only water and sewerage company to make the list, Essex & Suffolk Water is among 263 UK-based organisations recognised for creating a great workplace for all.

Earlier this year, the water company created a new female health group to highlight its support for a variety of women’s physical and mental health issues, including the menopause, fertility, and women’s safety.

Essex & Suffolk Water, which is a signatory of the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Ten Steps Programme, now also has a Women in STEM network which aims to help female colleagues in their careers and inspire them to become mentors to girls in STEM.

Micky Nicholas, Diversity & Inclusion Manager at Essex & Suffolk Water, said: “We’re committed to creating a working environment that’s inclusive and fair for everyone. So, we are absolutely delighted at the news that we’ve been listed as one of the UK’s best workplaces for women.

“Being recognised nationally as a top employer alongside other big names like Admiral and Santander is a brilliant acknowledgement that we celebrate and empower our people to reach their full potential, no matter who they are or what they do.

“Our work to support women, not just in their careers, but in their mental and physical health too, sets us apart from the rest, and I’m enormously proud of the amazing people we have working here who show overwhelming support for these networks, helping us to build a great workplace for all of us.”

Benedict Gautrey, Managing Director of Great Place to Work® UK, said: “Now in its fifth year, our 2022 list showcases the largest collection of Best Workplaces™ for Women that the UK has ever recognised.

“These results are based on what women themselves have anonymously reported to us about their workplace experience and how well represented they are in the workforce and management.

“Ensuring people aren’t discriminated against, placing positive value on our differences, creating fair access and advancement for all, and fostering a sense of value and empowerment in employees is what being a Great Place to Work® is all about.

“Only by first identifying the gaps in workers’ experiences can organisations truly take action to close them, which is why analysing employee experience is important. We are proud that the data and insights we provide organisations helps on that continuous journey - and it’s wonderful to celebrate so many Best Workplaces™ for Women this year, across all sectors and organisational sizes.”
