Northumbrian Water Group (NWG) has been named one of the ‘most ethical’ companies in the world.

NWG, who provide water and waste services to 2.7 million customers in the North East, and water services to 1.8 million customers in Essex and Suffolk, is the only water company in the world to be included in this year’s World’s Most Ethical Company® list.

One of only two UK based companies on the list, it is the eighth time NWG have received this global recognition from the Ethisphere Institute, who are a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices.

From around the world, only 128 companies across 50 industries in 21 countries were recognised and made honourees on the Ethisphere Institute ‘most ethical’ list.

These companies have illustrated their driving force for improving communities, building capable and empowered workforces, and champion corporate cultures focused on ethics and a strong sense of purpose.

Northumbrian Water Group's Chief Executive Officer, Heidi Mottram, said: "To be recognised globally as one of most ethical companies and to be the only water company in the world to make the list is a fantastic achievement.

“I feel incredibly proud and honoured to receive this honour for the eighth time. This recognition would not be possible without our amazing teams, who every day go above and beyond to help our customers and make a real difference in the communities we serve.

“It’s a privilege that our customers’ put their trust and confidence in us and the work we do every day. We are committed to providing the best possible service for our customers at the best value and doing this in the right way for the environment, our communities and our people. Being included in this list is a wonderful recognition of this.”

Ethisphere’s Chief Executive Officer, Timothy Erblich, said: “Today, employees, investors and stakeholders are putting their greatest trust in companies to take leadership on societal issues. Companies that take the long view with a purpose-based strategy are proven to not only outperform but last.

“I congratulate everyone at Northumbrian Water Group for earning this recognition.”

Alongside being one of the world’s most ethical companies NWG has also recently been named as one of ‘best companies’ to work for in the UK, securing a spot in the 2019 Sunday Times 25 Best Big Companies to Work For list making them a great place to work.
